Barry joined Grant Thornton in April 2000, having immigrated to New Zealand from South Africa two years earlier.

His first position in New Zealand was as financial manager of a successful family owned business within the hospitality industry.

Prior to moving to New Zealand Barry was Head Office Accountant of a publicly quoted company and a Company Secretary of the Aluminium Division of this Group. He also acted as Trustee of the group's independent pension fund.

Barry has a wide range of experience in a number of industry sectors serviced by the Grant Thornton Assurance team, including:

  • not for profit
  • health
  • education
  • service
  • manufacturing
  • share register compliance.

Through his varied background, Barry has developed expertise in many areas of accounting, including:

  • assurance services/external auditing
  • due diligence reviews
  • internal control and systems reviews
  • special investigations
  • preparation of financial statements.

Outside Interests

Barry has served on Parent Teachers Associations and is currently serving as Treasurer of the Special Music Programme Incorporated, a society that promotes the musical development of selected students from primary school through to university level in Christchurch.
