Tim Downes is the head of the Specialist Advisory Services Division in Auckland which provides turnaround management, investigation and insolvency services to companies experiencing financial difficulty, companies seeking to recover debt owing to them, financiers and fellow practitioners. Prior to joining Grant Thornton, Tim’s experience includes acting as a business advisory partner for “Big Four” international accounting firms for some 17 years.

Tim’s business advisory experience which includes strategy development and implementation, commercial litigation support services and sourcing of equity capital for private companies, combined with his background as a receiver and liquidator gives him a unique commercial perspective for his approach to recovery and reorganisation assignments. Tim’s experience includes trading a well known New Zealand manufacturing company out of receivership over a 2 year period.

His experience in assisting businesses that are facing uncertain futures or are showing signs of distress allows him to provide clear and practical solutions. He is regularly involved with a diverse range of businesses and is particularly experienced in assisting owner-managed enterprises through periods of uncertainty.

Outside Interests

Having been an active sportsman in the past, Tim remains a key follower of most sports, is a keen golfer and tennis player and enjoys spending time with his growing family.
