Steve leads Grant Thornton New Zealand’s new Business Transformation strategic planning practice, which assists clients in clarifying their purpose, values and vision for the future and with them develops the plan and implementation programme to achieve it.

Steve’s previous role was at Management Toolbox Ltd, a successful team of organisational engineers, who have now formed the new Business Transformation service.

He has over 25 years of experience as a CEO and MD of companies ranging in turnover from $20 million to $800 million.

Steve has successfully led medium and large organisations in New Zealand and Australia from difficult or loss making circumstances, to be the best and biggest in their industry. He has managed more than 40 mergers and acquisitions, and the consequential integration of systems and cultures, across New Zealand and Australia. He has also managed the divestment of entities to USA ownership.

Steve brings wisdom, clarity, direction, and the confidence to successfully make change to organisations that need to recover or make better progress. He’s able to translate strategy into pragmatic plans and meaningful goals. Successful change has been a cornerstone of Steve’s career.

Steve is also a qualified and experienced international facilitator, business coach, and mentor. His leadership skills at all levels of commercial and public organisations are supported by his experience, natural maturity and collaborative style.

He has worked with a variety of orgnisations in many sectors including: Iwi, tertiary organisations, prominent sports organisations, professional service organisations, numerous medium and large commercial and Not for Profit organisations, religious organisations, local bodies and an SOE.

Outside Interests

Steve is a well-balanced person who really enjoys life. He has a strong sense of authenticity, culture and difference. On the weekends he escapes the city life and heads up to his farm in the far-north of New Zealand. Here, he embraces the outdoors and enjoys the simple pleasures of life such as building fences and milking cows.
